No. The directory and conditions work in any browser. The free app adds the toolkit (marine conditions, waypoints, and session tracks) when you're at the beach.

We seed listings from public data, so many schools and spots are already here. Operators can claim their listing (or add a new one if it isn’t here) free, then subscribe for lesson management, minor releases, and a branded surfer surface.

Partly, and we would rather be straight about which parts. GPS tracking and saved waypoints keep working with no signal, and session data syncs the next time you get a bar. Map tiles you have already loaded stay on screen, but there is no download-this-area button yet, so a stretch of coast you have never opened will not draw. Downloadable maps are on the way.
